Batata Pawa & Kande Pohe

Batata pawa (Aloo Poha) and Kanda poha is the popular breakfast recipe in India since it is easy and very quick to prepare. If you are not a big fan of potato like me, make kande pohe with onion, corn and some other veggies such as carrot, grean peas or any other veggies that you think of can go well with this recipe.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups thick poha (rice flakes)
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • ¼ tsp cumin powder
  • ½ cup potato , peeled and grated
  • ½ cup onions , finely chopped(optional)
  • 1 tsp of each (Ginger, garlic, green chili paste)
  • 1 tbsp crushed peanut
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • ¼ cup cashews & raisins
  • 1 tbsp shreded coconut
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • ¼ tsp turmeric (haldi)
  • 2 tsp oil
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tbssp corriander finely chopped (for garnish)
  • 1 cup sev (besan sev fried in oil)
  • 4 lemon wedges

Instructions

  • Place the poha in a sieva and hold it under running water for a few seconds. Toss well to drain out all excess water and keep aside. Keep 2-3 tbsp of water in it and let it soak.
  • Heat oil in a non stick pan and add the mustard seeds and cummin seeds.
  • When the seeds crackle add asafoetida and the curry leaves
  • Add the onions and saute till the onions turn golden brown. Add all pastes.
  • Add potatos,turmeric powder, salt, and a littlewater. cover and heat on medium flame till the potatos are cooked.
  • Add all podered spices.
  • Add poha,sugar and little more salt to mix.
  • Serve hot garnished with lemon wedges, corriander and sev.
  • Also finely chopped tomato and onion can be garnished to make kind of chaat.
